During a time of famine, Elimelech moves from Israel to Moab with his wife Naomi and two sons. The sons marry women from Moab. Elimelech and both sons died, leaving Naomi and the son?s wives, Ruth and Orpa, as three widows. When Naomi learns that the famine in Israel has ended, she returns. Ruth shows tremendous loyalty by going with her, knowing that the chance she could remarry would be almost nil. Ruth goes to the fields of a relative, Boaz, to glean what is left when his harvesters have finished. She finds favor with Boaz, and he becomes her kinsman redeemer. Ruth becomes the mother of Obed, King David?s grandfather.
